The Matrice 4TD Fly More Combo is the deploy-ready thermal-first inspection platform for commercial drone pilots and enterprise inspection teams. Five sensors, IP55 durability, and a full operational day in one box.
The 640x512 thermal camera with UHR super-resolution finds heat anomalies in solar panels, identifies hotspots in electrical equipment, detects moisture intrusion in roofing, and maps active fire edges. All without swapping payloads or landing to reconfigure.
The 80° upward gimbal tilt reads the underside of a bridge deck, the belly of a transmission tower, or the soffit of an elevated structure without repositioning the aircraft. Wire detection at 12mm means you're flying near powerlines and substation infrastructure at operational speed with an obstacle avoidance system built for exactly that environment.
If your inspection work is thermal-first and your sites don't wait for perfect weather, this is the platform. If your primary deliverable is mapping or photogrammetry, see our DJI Matrice 4E Mapping & Surveying Bundles instead.
Standard delivery is 5 to 7 business days.

Who This Kit Is For
This is the M4TD configuration built for thermal-first commercial inspection work, without the spotlight and speaker payloads included in the public safety and wildlife recovery kits, and priced accordingly. The Fly More Combo is the right call for:
- Part 107 commercial pilots running a thermal inspection business across solar, roofing, electrical, and infrastructure verticals
- Utility and energy companies conducting in-house powerline and substation thermal inspections
- Property and facilities managers running thermal roof moisture surveys
- Oil and gas operators inspecting pipelines for thermal leak signatures and storage facility heat anomalies
- Industrial maintenance teams identifying heat anomalies across plant equipment and electrical infrastructure
- Enterprise drone programs that need a durable all-weather thermal platform across multiple inspection applications
If your primary use case is public safety or wildlife recovery, look at the First Responder Kit or NightTracker. Those include the payloads built for those missions. If your primary deliverable is mapping, surveying, or construction documentation, see the M4E.
How It Works for Thermal Inspection
Pre-plan your inspection route in DJI Pilot 2 using waypoint navigation before you're on site. The M4TD flies the route, maintains altitude over terrain with real-time terrain following, and captures thermal and optical imagery simultaneously across the full sensor package without any pilot input once the route is running.
The 640x512 thermal camera reads heat anomalies in solar cells, identifies faulty connections and overloaded circuits in electrical panels, detects moisture in flat roofing systems, and flags hotspots in industrial equipment at operational speed. Switch to UHR mode when you need more detail on a specific anomaly without descending.
The 48MP telephoto at 168mm equivalent reads equipment labels, serial numbers, and fault indicators from 250 meters without repositioning. The medium telephoto at 70mm captures hardware condition and visible damage detail from 10 meters.
The laser rangefinder tags GPS coordinates on anomalies at up to 1,800 meters so your report documents exact locations. The 80° upward gimbal tilt means bridge undersides, overhead transmission lines, and elevated thermal targets get inspected without repositioning the aircraft beneath them. RTK positioning puts centimeter-level GPS accuracy on every data point in your deliverable.
Thermal Inspection Applications
The M4TD Fly More Combo handles the full range of thermal-first commercial inspection work:
- Solar farm thermal inspections to locate underperforming panels, bypass diode failures, and hotspot cells across large arrays
- Powerline and transmission tower inspections using 12mm wire-level obstacle avoidance to fly near energized infrastructure safely
- Substation thermal surveys to identify overloaded equipment, failing connections, and heat anomalies in high-voltage infrastructure
- Roofing and building envelope moisture surveys using thermal to locate wet insulation and water intrusion without invasive testing
- Bridge underside thermal scans for concrete delamination and moisture penetration, using the 80° upward gimbal to read deck undersides without repositioning
- Industrial facility thermal monitoring across refineries, chemical plants, and manufacturing sites for heat anomalies and equipment status
- Pipeline thermal surveys for leak detection and integrity monitoring
- Wildfire perimeter mapping and hotspot detection for forestry and fire management agencies
- Storage tank and vessel thermal monitoring for liquid level verification and integrity checks
For mapping deliverables, photogrammetry, or construction progress documentation, the M4E with mechanical shutter is the right platform.
Built for All-Weather Operations
Most inspection jobs don't wait for perfect weather. The M4TD's IP55 rating means you're flying in rain, dust, and the field conditions that infrastructure inspection actually requires.
The -20°C to 50°C operating range covers winter tower inspections in freezing conditions and summer rooftop surveys in direct heat. Wind resistance at 12 m/s keeps the aircraft stable during telephoto inspections where even small movement degrades image quality.
The anti-ice propellers handle freezing conditions that ground unrated platforms. The RC Plus 2 controller carries its own IP54 rating so your control system holds up in the same conditions the aircraft does.

Optional Add-Ons
| Accessory | What It Does |
|---|---|
| DJI AL1 Spotlight | Adds 100m gimbal-linked illumination for night inspections, low-light facility surveys, and after-hours infrastructure monitoring. Mounts directly to the M4TD. If your inspection work includes night operations, add this to the kit. |
| DJI AS1 Speaker | 114 dB broadcast at 1 meter, 300m range. Useful for security and perimeter monitoring applications where audio broadcast from the aircraft is part of the operation. Runs simultaneously with the spotlight if both are mounted. |
| Covert Tactical Vision 21.5" Field Monitor | Lets a second team member (a client, a site supervisor, or a safety officer) watch the thermal and optical feed in real time without standing over the pilot. Useful for client-facing inspections where the customer wants to see what the drone sees, or for two-person inspection teams covering large sites. |
| PowerHub 200W Triple Charger | Charges 3 batteries simultaneously instead of sequentially. For commercial inspection pilots covering large sites or running back-to-back jobs, this closes the gap between battery rotations and keeps you on site longer without waiting on the included hub. |

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Matrice 4TD Fly More Combo used for?
The Fly More Combo is the M4TD's core thermal inspection configuration. Aircraft, controller, batteries, hard case, and accessories without the spotlight and speaker payloads. It's built for commercial drone pilots and enterprise teams running thermal-first inspection work across solar farms, powerlines, substations, roofing, pipelines, and industrial facilities. If your primary application is public safety or wildlife recovery, the First Responder Kit and NightTracker include the mission-specific payloads. If your primary deliverable is mapping or photogrammetry, see the M4E.
What's the difference between the Matrice 4TD and Matrice 4E for inspection work?
Both platforms share the same controller, weather rating, and flight characteristics. The difference is the sensor priority. The M4TD has a thermal camera and is built for heat-based inspection (solar, electrical, roofing, fire). The M4E has a mechanical shutter and is built for survey-grade mapping and photogrammetry (construction, structural mapping, surveying). The M4TD's rolling shutter creates motion artifacts that degrade photogrammetry accuracy, so for mapping deliverables the M4E is the right tool. For thermal anomaly detection, the M4TD is the right tool because the M4E doesn't have a thermal camera. If your work is mixed, the M4TD's thermal is the harder capability to find on the market.
Can the Matrice 4TD be used for solar panel inspection?
Yes. The M4TD is one of the most capable platforms for large-scale solar farm thermal inspection. The 640x512 thermal camera with UHR mode identifies hotspot cells, bypass diode failures, and underperforming strings across large arrays from operational altitude. Pre-planned waypoint routes in DJI Pilot 2 let you automate the flight path over the array and capture thermal and optical data simultaneously in a single pass. The RTK module tags centimeter-level GPS coordinates on every anomaly so your deliverable includes exact panel locations for maintenance crews.
How does the Matrice 4TD detect powerline faults during inspection?
The thermal camera identifies heat anomalies in conductors, insulators, connections, and hardware that indicate resistance faults, overloading, or degradation before visible damage occurs. The 48MP telephoto at 168mm captures conductor detail and hardware condition from a safe standoff distance of up to 250 meters. The 12mm wire-level obstacle avoidance system using LiDAR and millimeter-wave radar lets you fly close to energized infrastructure at operational speed without the avoidance system being defeated by the wire geometry. The laser rangefinder tags GPS positions on fault locations for maintenance dispatch.
What's the difference between the Fly More Combo and the First Responder Kit?
Both kits use the same M4TD aircraft and RC Plus 2 controller. The First Responder Kit includes the DJI AL1 Spotlight and DJI AS1 Speaker, which are the payloads built for public safety operations including thermal search, night illumination, and public address. The Fly More Combo does not include those payloads, making it the lower-cost entry point for thermal inspection and industrial use cases. If you later need to add public safety capability to a Fly More Combo, the AL1 and AS1 are available separately.
Can the Matrice 4TD inspect bridge undersides for thermal anomalies?
Yes. The gimbal tilts up to 80° upward, which lets the aircraft hover at deck level and point the thermal camera directly at the underside of a bridge deck without repositioning beneath the structure. This is the right configuration for concrete delamination detection, moisture penetration mapping, and thermal integrity surveys on elevated infrastructure. For structural visual inspection with survey-grade mapping output, the M4E with mechanical shutter is the better tool.
Does the Matrice 4TD work for roof moisture surveys?
Yes. Thermal roof moisture detection works by identifying areas of elevated heat retention in flat and low-slope roofing systems where wet insulation holds heat differently than dry material. The M4TD's 640x512 thermal camera with UHR mode provides sufficient resolution to map moisture intrusion across large commercial roof areas from altitude. Surveys are typically conducted within two hours after sunset when the roof surface has cooled enough for wet areas to show measurable heat differential. The RTK positioning tags exact GPS locations on anomalies so roofing contractors can locate problem areas without full roof replacement.
What Part 107 rules apply to commercial drone inspection work?
Any commercial drone operation, including charging for inspection services, requires an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. Specific inspection operations may require additional considerations:
- Flying in controlled airspace requires LAANC authorization, separate from any site access coordination with the asset owner
- Night operations are permitted under Part 107 without a waiver provided the operator has completed updated recurrent training and the aircraft has anti-collision lighting
- BVLOS operations for extended pipeline or corridor surveys require a specific FAA waiver under current rules
- Flying near energized infrastructure typically requires coordination with the utility operator for site access and safety protocols
We recommend confirming your specific operational requirements with an aviation attorney or FAA regional office before starting commercial inspection work. FAA Part 108 BVLOS rules have been proposed and may change BVLOS requirements in the future.
Can the Matrice 4TD fly autonomously for inspection routes?
Yes. DJI Pilot 2 supports waypoint navigation, Smart 3D Capture routes, geometric routes, slope routes, and real-time terrain following. You pre-plan the route on the controller before or during site setup, and the aircraft executes it autonomously while you monitor the feed. Automated routes capture thermal and optical data simultaneously at consistent altitude and overlap, which produces more repeatable inspection results than manual flight. The RTK module maintains centimeter-level positioning accuracy throughout the automated route so your GPS-tagged deliverable data is report-grade.
How many solar panels can the M4TD inspect in a single flight?
Coverage per flight depends on array layout, flight altitude, overlap requirements for your deliverable, and weather conditions. Automated waypoint routes at typical inspection altitudes cover utility-scale arrays efficiently. The 3-battery kit with hot-swap rotations gives you operational time for large utility-scale arrays in a single site visit without a recharge break. Specific coverage estimates are best discussed with us based on your typical job profile.
